Australia's Rebel Sport Limited saw sales revenue for the nine months ended April 1, 2006 increase 14.5% to $272.9 million over the same period last year, including sales revenue from the Glue lifestyle stores. Sales on a same store basis increased by 8.2%.
Sales for the third quarter increased by 16.5% in total, and 10.5% on a same store basis. Management said gross margin was “also strong” throughout the period.
During the nine months ended 1 April 2006, Rebel Sport opened six new stores located at Midland Gate and Rockingham (Western Australia), Shepparton and Fountain Gate (Victoria), Carindale (Queensland) and Mt Druitt (New South Wales).
The store in Campbelltown (New South Wales) was relocated within the Macarthur Square Centre. A further Glue store was also opened in Tuggerah (New South Wales).
On April 6, 2006, Rebel Sport opened its relocated Penrith (New South Wales) store in Penrith Plaza. A new Glue store was also opened on the same day in the same complex. Rebel Sport will close its Darwin store in early May 2006.
Rebel Sport Limited currently has 62 Rebel Sport stores and 10 Glue stores.
Negotiations on more Rebel Sport stores are underway, though no new Rebel Sport stores will open in the 2006 financial year. Approximately six new Rebel Sport stores
are expected to be opened during the 2007 financial year.
