Rabbit, the California-based running apparel manufacturer, has signed on to sponsor another of Aravaipa Running’s signature events, the Black Canyon Ultras. Races of both 60 and 100 kilometers will be contested next month on the world class Black Canyon National Recreation Trail north of Phoenix, AZ.
Beloved by trail aficionados, the Black Canyon Ultras are known for serving up heaping doses of undulating singletrack. This year, the 100k will gain new prominence, as it joins the elite list of events that serve as Golden Ticket races for the Western States Endurance Event. The 100k will also serve as a Western States qualifier and UTMB points are available for participants in both the 60 and 100 kilometer races.
For Rabbit, which also sponsors Aravaipa’s Racing Team and their Javelina Jundred race, the opportunity to get involved with another great event in the desert was too good to pass up.
Rabbit co-founder Monica DeVreese, who will be running the 60k to kick off her ultrarunning season, was quick to praise the Aravaipa team and its founder Jamil Coury. She said, “We just have so much respect for what Jamil and his team are doing, they are great leaders in our sport and we feel so lucky to be able to work with them.”
Spectators should expect the canyons to be rife with Rabbits, as a large contingent of athletes associated with the brand are set to descend on the race. Aiming for his second Golden Ticket in two years, RabbitPRO Eric Senseman is looking like a force to be reckoned with after taking home the win and a new course record this weekend at Aravaipa’s Coldwater Rumble 52k. Joining Senseman in the 100k will be Rabbit Community and PR Manager Jeffrey Stern and RabbitELITEtrail teammates Rod Farvard, Kevin Cody, Dan Goldstein and Rachel Bell Kelley.
