Responding to the heated controversy following a United Airlines gate agent preventing two girls from boarding a flight wearing leggings, Puma is offering customers with a past or future ticket on a United flight 20 percent off leggings through April 9.
On its Twitter feed, Puma wrote, “We fly in our leggings. Bring your @United ticket to any US PUMA store for 20% off leggings. Now until April 9. Stay Fly. #DoYou.”
United responded to criticism by pointing out that the girls were “pass travelers,” or family members of United employees traveling for free on standby. In a statement, the airline said, “When taking advantage of this benefit, all employees and pass riders are considered representatives of United. And like most companies, we have a dress code that we ask employees and pass riders to follow.”
Nonetheless, Puma’s tongue-in-cheek offer will surely appeal to many who object to the idea of children being held to an unrealistic dress code. For example, actress Patricia Arquette tweeted, “@united Leggings are business attire for 10 year olds. Their business is being children.”
