Boulder, CO (August 22, 2024) —  Paka, the sustainable apparel brand best known for its performance-based alpaca fiber gear, announces the launch of its first-ever alpaca fiber sun hoodie. Paka has served as a leader in alpaca fiber innovation since its launch in 2017: they brought the first-ever alpaca fiber insulation, Pakafill, to market in 2022, as well as the first alpaca fiber fleece, PakaCloud, in 2023. This year, the brand continues its innovation streak with a sun protection solution that offers the benefits of alpaca’s natural breathability, odor resistance, and temperature regulation.

Made of an alpaca fiber blend, the Sol Hoodie boasts a natural UPF rating of 30+, antibacterial properties, adaptable thermoregulation, and moisture resistance (only retains less than 10 percent): all owed to alpacas’ evolution in the highly fluctuating alpine environment of the Andes. Built for performance, the Sol Hoodie makes the perfect companion for playing in the mountains. At an airy fabric weight of 181 gsm, the Sol Hoodie will keep you warm and maintain breathability through alpaca fibers’ hollow medullated air pockets.

“We created the Sol Hoodie to keep people comfortable and protected underneath the sun,” said Paka Founder and CEO, Kris Cody. “We tested protos on treks with our Peruvian guides and refined it to handle the rapid temperature changes of the Andes.”

The Sol Hoodie is made from royal alpaca fiber, the thinnest designation of alpaca fiber at only 17-19 microns, with a softness comparable to cashmere. Each hoodie features a handwoven Inca ID crafted by women artisans employed at 4x the living wage in Peru. The hoodie also features a crossover, hat-compatible hood, and thumbholes for optimal sun protection. The Sol Hoodie is available in Men’s – Supernova (Silver) and Camu (Rust) and Women’s – Guava (Blush Pink) and Supernova (Silver).
