To close out 2021, Nixon and The Grateful Dead created a limited-edition collection of watches, bags, and replacement watchbands using the band’s iconic art.
The first installment incorporates Grateful Dead imagery into seven watches and five watchbands.
The collaboration leans heavily on Nixon’s sustainable and environmentally friendly products, aligning with the Dead’s history supporting environmental causes since the 1970s.
The new Grateful Dead Light Wave is a solar-powered analog-style watch that incorporates #tide brand recycled ocean plastic into the watch band and case. Each watch removes two plastic bottles out of circulation eliminating the toxic effects discarded batteries have on the environment. Nixon was the first brand to create a solar analog watch using #tide ocean plastic.
When it arrives at retail on December 10, 2021, the Grateful Dead Nixon collection of carry items will include a backpack, convertible duffel bag, beverage sling, and other items made from Repreve Our Ocean performance fibers. Similar to #tide, Repreve Our Ocean fiber is created from ocean-bound plastic bottles, and Nixon was the first brand in the U.S. to launch a line of bags using the material when it began incorporating them into its bag collection in 2021. The environmental consideration of the collaboration continues with multiple quick-release and NATO replacement watch bands made using recycled plastic fibers.
