CHAPEL HILL, N.C., May 16, 2019 – CEP Compression is joining partner wear blue: run to remember, a national nonprofit organization committed to building a running community that honors the service and sacrifice of the American military, to encourage everyone to run in remembrance this Memorial Day. wear blue will be hosting community gatherings across the country on the morning of Monday, May 27 to honor fallen military members and their families.

wear blue’s Memorial Day events will begin with a Circle of Remembrance where the names of fallen service members are spoken aloud. Afterward, group members will unite as a living memorial for the fallen service members by committing purposeful miles with a self-paced run or walk. By setting aside a small portion of their morning, participants have a chance to express gratitude for the courage, heroism, and sacrifice of the men and women who have given all.

“Whether you choose to run or walk, we’re encouraging Americans to join us in committing to a meaningful distance that allows some room for reflection in honoring our fallen military members,” said Lisa Hallett, president and co-founder of wear blue: run to remember. “It can be any distance or pace; the goal is to bring people together in a way that pays respect for the sacrifices military families make day-in and day-out.”

In 2009, Hallett’s husband – CPT John Hallett – was killed during an attack while he was deployed in Afghanistan. Surviving the loss of her husband, who was also her best friend and father to their three young children, Hallett turned to her love of running to help cope and soon found a community that needed the same kind of support that running gave her. Hallett created wear blue as a healthy outlet for those grieving like her and a path to move forward. The organization has expanded into a national network with a mission to unite military and their families, veterans, Gold Star families and civilians through active remembrance and meaningful relationships.

In support of Hallett and wear blue, CEP is developing a signature wear blue compression sock, with proceeds going to support the organization’s mission, out later this year. CEP will also support the organization’s funding efforts through the sale of its new 3.0 sock on the wear blue website. Additionally, CEP is outfitting several wear blue teams and communities in their race training efforts throughout the year.

“As a veteran myself from a family of veterans and active service members, wear blue’s mission is one that’s very close to my heart and we’re excited about the programs we have in development to support their ongoing mission,” said Luke Rowe, senior vice president, CEP Compression. “Staying active, running or walking, plays an important role in the lives of our military service members and families. We encourage everyone to join us this Memorial Day to find a local wear blue: run to remember meet up and take a few steps in support and recognition of their sacrifices.”

To participate, runners and walkers can sign up for one of wear blue’s established Memorial Day community gatherings, host a Memorial Day event or pledge to run on their own or with their family. Participants are encouraged to share the name of a service member who died in battle and what motivates them to run this Memorial Day to make their miles more purposeful.
