Golden, CO, October 15, 2019 – Big City Mountaineers (BCM), a leading provider of transformative outdoors experiences for youth with limited access to wilderness, announces today its 2020 Summit for Someone trips and dates. The Summit for Someone program, now in its 14th year, offers a series of guided outdoor adventures as a way to fundraise for the organization’s youth programs.
“Summit for Someone gives you the opportunity to take the trip of a lifetime while providing equally impactful trips for under-resourced youth,” says Bryan Martin, executive director at BCM. “Every year, Summit for Someone participants introduce more youth to the wilderness – many of whom have never hiked or camped before. This wouldn’t be possible otherwise.”
Big City Mountaineers’ youth programming is marked by its signature week-long, fully-outfitted and professionally-led wilderness expedition for teenagers. The nonprofit also recently expanded its offerings to include overnight camps for students 8-12 years of age and a Peer Leader program for graduates of the week-long expedition.
The Summit for Someone fundraising choices changes each year. From physical summits to personal summits, the program offers challenges and adventures geared towards various skill levels. In addition to the 2020 Summit for Someone trips, individuals can also fundraise to participate in Ragnar Trail Relay races in Snowmass, Tahoe, Rainier or Wisconsin this summer. About Big City Mountaineers: Big City Mountaineers (BCM) provides youth access to wilderness spaces through partnerships with youth development agencies in seven cities across the US. BCM’s wilderness programs provide an outdoors component to the critical work of these partner organizations. For students ages 8-12, BCM facilitates an overnight camp, where they develop personal relationships with nature by sleeping under the stars and learning about camping skills and Leave No Trace principles. For students ages 13-18, BCM offers its signature wilderness expedition – a week-long, fully-outfitted and professionally-led backpacking trip with a 1-to-1 adult to student ratio. In its work, BCM serves nearly 1,000 youth a year. To learn more, please visit bigcitymountaineers.org.
