Pony Inc. is partnering with Focus Features to create a limited-edition sneaker in conjunction with the upcoming animated movie “9.” The movie is being released on September 9.
“9” is a computer-animated vision of the future that follows the adventures of small, burlap-covered robots called “stitchpunks.” Actors Elijah Wood, Martin Landau and Jennifer Connelly, among others, lend their voices to the characters.
The shoe was created to reflect the “stitchpunks,” using burlap and other makeshift materials. It also features a zipper, mismatched eyelets and neon-green stitching and accents. A limited-edition run of 99 sneakers will be distributed through an online sweeps,
“PONY is excited to be able to collaborate with Focus Features on a
project as creative and innovative as the '9' sneaker. It gives us the
opportunity to really push the conventional shoe boundaries, and to
honor the ingenuity and imagination behind Shane's film. It also allows
us to be inventive on a promotional level because of the arithmetic
characteristics and other distinctive attributes of the film,” says
Kevin Wulff, President and CEO of PONY.
