Piq, a French wearables startup (hitting a spot in the golf market), is seeking to differentiate itself with the unveiling of a high-performance sensor that operates in combination with its artificial intelligence sports interface, dubbed Gaia. The company is calling the product the Piq Robot.

The company claims to provide the “ultimate sport experience” by identifying athletes’ key strengths, which it calls “Winning Factors,”- a phrase trademarked by the company. It’s clear from their marketing efforts that the products are aimed at pro o elite athletes in sports such as tennis, golf, skiing and even kiteboarding.

How it works is Gaia breaks down and analyzes sports movements via specific motion-capture algorithms, while Piq Robot is a “nano-computer capable of analyzing more than 195,000 data points per minute in real time,” according to a representative of the company.

Through the interface, athletes can compare past performances on a specific day as well as measure them versus the community’s overall performance.

Cédric Mangaud, CEO and co-founder, Piq, stated, “With Gaia and the Winning Factors, sports wearables enter a new paradigm. Our technology enables athletes not only to measure their performance, but also to benefit from personalized advice and get closer to victory. Our goal is now to integrate this technology in sport devices to offer athletes a fully integrated experience.”

Piq Sport Intelligence is the exclusive technological partner for Babolat (tennis), Mobitee (golf), Rossignol (skiing) and North Kiteboarding (kite-surfing).
