PickUp USA Fitness, the basketball-focused gym chain with company-owned and franchised locations nationwide, will open a new franchise location owned by Kerby Louis in Urbanville, IA.
Aaron Magno, PickUp USA’s VP of Franchise Development, said, “It’s the nicest gym I’ve ever seen. Kerby built a state-of-the-art facility. It’s truly a showcase club for the brand.”
The Urbandale PickUp USA has a 3,000-square-foot weight and cardio center and three full basketball courts. Louis is targeting a soft opening before the end of the year.
PickUp USA started outside of Los Angeles, CA in 2012. The original concept exclusively catered to adults who play pickup basketball. The location attracted customers by providing organization and officiating to timed PickUp games. That concept grew and the original location added youth basketball services, including group basketball training, basketball skills clinics and youth basketball development leagues. Today, PickUp USA is the nation’s largest basketball gym chain.
The West Side of Des Moines has developed into a hub for fitness concepts, with national gym chains opening in this growing market. There is a shortage of basketball-focused concepts. PickUp USA reported in a media release that it “is poised to fill that gap.”
