Pear Sports announced the acquisition of Aaptiv, the workout app. Aligned with the acquisition, Life Fitness has added to its equity investment in Pear and will distribute Aaptiv through its sales and marketing partnership.
Aaptiv, with “13 million downloads and more than 36 million classes taken,” is expected to complement Pear’s personalized, data approach to fitness and wellness through its digital coaching. The Aaptiv brand will continue operations and draw on the benefits from the combined Pear and Life Fitness businesses. Pear plans to develop Aaptiv’s digital health and wellness content and membership by strengthening its offerings through integrating Pear Training. Its patented AI technology offers personalized digital fitness and health plans using an individual’s biometric data, fitness level and goals.
Pear said it would “further its exclusive sales and marketing partnership with Life Fitness to expand the awareness of Aaptiv to consumers and employers.”
Life Fitness plans to support Aaptiv’s growth through investment and deliver more content and connected fitness experiences to its users who are integrated with its equipment.
Brian Pitstick, VP and GM, Pear, Connected Fitness, said, “This strategic combination of industry leaders boosts our fitness community and empowers people to reach their health goals. Pear will continue to drive innovation and engaging experiences to the Aaptiv product line while Life Fitness will use the power of their industry-leading equipment, global footprint and connected fitness strategy to increase user reach and enrich the product experience.”
