Retailers experienced a huge increase in sales in November, according to transaction data released today by OrderMotion, The OrderMotion Index showed a 25% increase in the number of transactions, as compared with November 2005. Additionally, sales from those transactions increased by 118%.

The day after Thanksgiving – commonly referred to as ‘Black Friday’ – saw a 29% increase in the number of online purchases this year, according to the data. Interestingly, ‘Cyber Monday’, which analysts have pointed to in recent years as a major Internet shopping day, saw a significant drop in online transactions this year, down 8% from last year. This data, however, is consistent with OrderMotion’s prediction that Monday, December, 18 will be the biggest holiday shopping day this year based on a combination of historical transaction data and the number of shipping days remaining before December 25.

“OrderMotion has been monitoring transactions, average order value and revenue of smaller retailers doing under $20 million online to compare how they track against the online shopping experience of the larger retailers,” said Donny Askin, CEO, OrderMotion. “From what we are seeing, smaller retailers are getting a slightly lower average order value but a significant increase in number of transactions. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues into December.”

“We were expecting an increase in orders this year, but not to this magnitude,” said Brendan Flaherty, CEO, Warrior Custom Golf, which experienced a significant increase in the number of orders it received this past November. “We’re fortunate to have had OrderMotion’s flexible order management platform, so we didn’t have to worry about bringing in a lot more people to work the phones. It would have been very difficult to keep up the pace without this on-demand application.”
