The Outdoor Industry Women’s Coalition (OIWC) awarded Boston-based Energybits a coveted spot in Pitchfest, a startup competition for women-led sports companies sponsored by the OIWC and funded by REI. As one of the winners, Energybits Founder/CEO Catharine Arnston will give a short presentation August 2 in Salt Lake City, UT.
OIWC holds an annual Pitchfest competition for women-led startups whose business focus is the outdoors. The most promising companies are selected as winners and invited to Salt Lake City to “pitch” their company to a star-studded panel of investors and outdoor sports VIP’s.
The award marks the third startup competition Energybits has won in the last six months and illustrates the rapid growth and interest in algae and their company.
The six-year-old, privately held sports nutrition company innovated the algae tablet, bringing the no-sugar offering to sports enthusiasts, athletes and health conscious consumers. According to the company, Algae is recognized by NASA and the United Nations as the most nutritionally dense food in the world and is a multi-billion-dollar industry in Asia where it has been sold for fifty years.
