With a petition signed by more than 400 ORWM attendees, Kim Coupounas, chairperson of OIA and CEO of GoLite; Frank Hugelmeyer, president of Outdoor Industry Association; Peter Metcalf, CEO of Black Diamond; Mike Wallenfels, president of Mountain Hardwear; and Mike Collins, vice president of REI asked Utahs Governor, Jon Huntsman, to maintain roadless protection of 4 million acres of national forest lands. The Governor replied by saying he would not submit his current draft petition that would do away with this protection. OIA has been lobbying state and national government officials to maintain roadless protection; and, this is considered to be a major win for the organization.
