National Sporting Goods Association president & CEO James L. Faltinek announced that former Association Chairman Jack Schlicht, retired owner of Milwaukee Sporting Goods, Milwaukee, Wis., died Thursday, August 30. Schlicht served on the NSGA Board of Directors from 1988-2001, including one term as Chairman in 1994.

Schlicht was born September 15, 1939 in Hustisford, Wis., and resided in Waukesha. He was preceded in death by his wife Jackie. He is survived by son David (Tracy) Schlicht and daughter Judy (Jay) Douglas, grandchildren Jake, Kasey, Sydney, Lauryn and Payton, and special friend Kay Becker.

“NSGA lost a wonderful friend and the industry lost a dealer dedicated to making the industry better for all,” Faltinek said. “Even in retirement, Jack remained active in the industry. Last Wednesday, he was an active participant in the annual planning meeting at NSGA headquarters to develop the curriculum for next year’s NSGA Management Conference & Team Dealer Summit. He will be greatly missed.”

Schlicht was a 1962 Carroll College graduate, Athletic Hall of Fame inductee and active alumnus. He devoted more than 30 years to the sporting goods industry.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 6, from 1-4:45 p.m., with the funeral service following at 5:00 p.m. at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Rd., Waukesha, Wis. (on the corner of Hwy J & Hwy JJ, about 4 blocks south of I-94 from Hwy J).

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Schlicht’s name has been established with the Carroll College Athletic Department.
