Phil Chiarella, an EVP of Canstar Sports USA (formerly Bauer) when it was sold to Nike Inc. in 1995, died last week at the age of 66 after a long battle with prostate cancer, according to the Montreal Gazette. He has been credited with leading the development of the molded skate boot.


 


After playing football in the Continental Football League, Chiarella worked at Bob Lunny’s sporting goods store on his way to several ventures in the sporting goods industry, primarily around hockey. According to the newspaper, Chiarella is survived by his daughter, Tracie Berton, and two granddaughters, Cloe and Nichola.
