John Bockel passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009 of a heart attack. The founder of Park Athletic Supply in Allen Park, MI in 1962, Bockel spent his life in the sporting goods industry.
His store supplied uniforms and equipment for local high schools and colleges, and Bockel himself was known for personally doing whatever it took to supply his customers their equipment immediately. The founder also helped to establish Allen Parks ice arena and was named to the citys Sports Hall of Fame, reported The Detroit News.
Bockel is survived by his wife Ann of 58 years, sons David and Mark, and two grandchildren. He was 79.
