After 31 years of service to the sporting goods industry and the association's members, NSGA's Director of Research & Information Services, Dan Kasen, will retire effective November 2, 2012.

“Dan's long career with the association has been filled with many outstanding moments and worthwhile contributions,” said NSGA's President & CEO, Matt Carlson. “His dedication to providing our members with valuable business intelligence and knowledge is something that will not be easily replaced, but I am happy he is able to take advantage of a well-deserved retirement.”

Prior to starting with the association in April 1981 as an Information Specialist, Kasen had earned two master's degrees – one in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin, and a second in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University.

He then became NSGA's Manager of Information Services, and was promoted to his current role, as Director of Research & Information Services, in October 2010.

In this role, Kasen has led the association's research efforts, while also fielding thousands of questions annually through the NSGA Information Center. His Dan “The Answer Man” columns have regularly appeared in the association's magazine for more than a decade. Since January 2010, he has also served as the Co-Director of NSGA's hockey division – the Hockey Dealers Association.

“I've really enjoyed the 31 years I have spent at NSGA, and my favorite part has been the opportunity to help our members solve business needs through the NSGA Information Center,” Kasen said. “While I will miss my colleagues, the Board of Directors, and all of our other members, I am convinced NSGA will continue to thrive and be a valuable resource for the sporting goods industry for many years to come.”

Carlson said, “Although Dan is retiring, his countless contributions and invaluable dedication to our members will not be forgotten. I'm sure he is excited to spend more time on his many hobbies, and that he'll be able to log more miles running the streets of Chicago. We will hire someone who will come in and pick up where Dan left off in providing the most well-established research in the sporting goods industry.”
