The National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) appointed Bob Fawley, Capital Varsity Sports and Gordon Geiger, Geiger’s, to its Board of Directors.

They replace Rhett Johnson, Johnson-Lambe Sporting Goods and Jeff Miller, Scholastic Sports Sales, whose terms expired end-May 2021.

Fawley has been a member of NSGA’s Team Dealer Advisory Committee and Geiger is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Ski & Snowboard Retailers Association (NSSRA).

“Bob and Gordon have been highly engaged contributors to NSGA and the sporting goods industry, and their insight has been very valuable with the challenges everyone has faced the last 15 months,” said Matt Carlson, NSGA President & CEO.

Fawley started working with Capitol Varsity Sports, located in Oxford, OH, in 1985. Fawley and his wife purchased Capitol Varsity, a reconditioner of football equipment, in 1997, and 10 years ago, they bought a second retail location in Hamilton, OH. Fawley is also the president of the National Athletic Equipment Reconditioners Association (NAERA) and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE).

Geiger is the executive vice president and co-owner Geiger’s, who has provided clothing, footwear and gear for snow sports and outdoor activities since 1932. Geiger’s has two locations in the Cleveland, OH suburbs of Lakewood and Chagrin Falls. Geiger has been the NSSRA Board Chairman since 2019 and a member of the board since 2015. He also served as chairman and a director for Sports Specialists LTD.

“We can’t thank Rhett and Jeff enough for their dedication and service to NSGA and their efforts to help make the Association and the sporting goods industry better,” Carlson said. “We look forward to continuing our work with the Johnson-Lambe and Scholastic Sports families as business continues to evolve.”
