North Cove Outfitters is closing its doors after 24 years in business in Old Saybrook, CT.


The store was opened by partners Norman Cavallaro and G. Edward Carney in 1988 and grew to nearly 16,000 square feet in a building it rented on Main Street. The business has struggled since the Connecticut River flooded 6,000 square feet of showroom on its bottom floor in March 2010.   


On Friday, employees learned the business would be lqiuidating and closing its doors. On Tuesday, North Cove’s website advertised a “Historic Store Closing SALE!”


The store has won multiple awards from the industry over the years for promoting paddlesports in southern New England and the Long Island Sound area. Cavallaro had recently run for the board of directors at Outdoor Industry Association.
