North Carolina will donate approximately $850,000 worth of counterfeit Nike and Timberland footwear to World Vision, a Christian relief agency that provides disaster assistance, several media outlets reported.

The footwear includes more than 8,000 pairs of counterfeit Nike shoes and Timberland boots seized in Charlotte and surrounding areas.

State officials received permission from Nike and Timberland to send the shoes to people in needy countries around the world. World Vision has worked with MLB and other sporting goods organizations to donate counterfeit apparel to disaster relief and other humanitarian efforts worldwide.

The North Carolina Secretary of State’s Office says since October 2009, more than $2 million in counterfeit goods have been seized and about 40 people arrested in Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties.
