Nike reportedly to close to securing major deals with FC Barcelona and FC Chelsea, according to reports. The signings will make Barcelona the most lucrative global football contract, surpassing Manchester United.
The Barcelona deal is said to be worth €100 million ($112.8 mm), according to Diario Ara. The Nou Camp club have for some years been one of Nike’s biggest accounts in terms of merchandise sales. The contract would last 10 years.
The deal would surpass the €96 million ($108.3 mm) deal with Manchester United agreed with Adidas last season.
The Chelsea Football Club deal is said to be worth £60 million ($87.7 mm) a year, becoming the second most lucrative contract after Manchester in England’s Premier League. The deal was first reported by the Daily Telegraph. Under Armour was also involved in the bidding.
Chelsea had a kit deal in place until 2023 with Adidas, but the contract was cancelled in May by mutual agreement.
Chelsea’s reported new deal places the team firmly ahead of Arsenal, whose five-year deal with Puma, signed in 2014, is worth slightly more than £30 million ($43.9 mm) a year.
