Reports out of Brazil have adidas making overtures to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to become sponsor. The CBF's current contract with rival Nike is set to expire in 2018 with adidas' bid reportedly far outpacing the current level set by the Nike contract.
During the last half year, adidas, Nike and the German national soccer team have been battling over whether adidas has the rights to the team's uniforms or if Nike can take them over. For Nike picking up the German squad would be a major coup to occur in adidas' backyard. Meanwhile, if adidas can steal Brazil away from Nike, it would give the company access to one of the most popular teams in the soccer world. Puma also has the chance to pop into the Brazil bidding as a dark horse. The company has been quietly adding teams to its sponsored list, especially in Africa.
