The NSSA (National Scholastic Surfing Association) announced an extended and upgraded two-year partnership with Nike 6.0. This new partnership designates Nike 6.0 as the “Official apparel and shoe sponsor of the NSSA.” In addition, the NSSA has officially announced the return of the National Open Championships to Huntington Beach Pier June 29-July 3. The National Interscholastic and National Explorer Championships will be held at Salt Creek June 16-19.

“Thirty-two years ago, the first National Championships was held in Huntington Beach and we are thrilled that it has found its way back home to Surf City, USA,” said Janice Aragon, NSSA Executive Director. “There is nothing that compares to the crowds, the activity and the excitement that center stage at Huntington Beach Pier can offer. Hopefully we will get a little help from Mother Nature as well.”

The new Nike agreement includes extensive sponsorship of the 2010 National Championships, the highest attended annual youth surfing championship in the nation with over 900 participants in various championship categories. The partnership also includes a significant webcast commitment by Nike 6.0. The 2010 NSSA National Championship webcast will feature live webcasts that include a live commentary of the event, pre-event and post-event show, on-air industry guests and celebrities, in-depth-behind-the-scenes interviews, exclusive offers, etc.

“Nike has a world-renowned reputation for excellence and innovation, which makes them an ideal fit for the NSSA,” added Aragon. “As with all of our partners, Nike will play an important role in the presentation and operation of the Nationals as well as the progression of the entire NSSA program into the future.”

Since 1978, the NSSA National Championships has grown to be one of the most exciting and celebrated youth surfing events in the world from its festive atmosphere to its rich history. The roster of past winners reads like a “Who's Who of professional surfing” with Bobby Martinez, Fred Patacchia, Rob Machado, Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, Kelly Slater, CJ and Damien Hobgood, Taylor Knox, Kalani Robb, the Gudauskas brothers, Kekoa Bacalso, Nathaniel Curran, Greg Long and Carissa Moore among its most prominent champions.

“The NSSA has been, and will continue to be, a pillar for the sport of surfing in the US,” said Zach Boon, Nike 6.0 Associate Brand Manager. “From the World Champs bred through its ranks, to the salt caked surf stoked grom, no other organization in amateur surfing has delivered such a positive impact for the surfers and their families alike. Continued support of the Nationals webcast is just one example how we can help enhance the experience and the level of exposure for the athletes. Nike 6.0 is honored to be a part in the evolution of the NSSA and continue to support the next generation of the sport.”
