Nielsen Expositions, which owns the Outdoor Retailer show that kicks off Aug. 2 in Salt Lake City, reported flat revenues for the second quarter ended June 30.


Revenues reached $38 million, virtually unchanged from a year earlier. Operating income rose to $8 million from $5 million in the second quarter of 2011, driven primarily by lower restructuring and depreciation expense.

For the six months ended June 30, Nielsen Expositions sales reached $99 million, up 5.3 percent from the comparable year earlier period, due to growth of existing shows. Operating income for the six months reached $38 million, up 22.5 percent from a year earlier.

Nielsen’s Expositions segment operates one of the largest portfolios of business-to-business trade shows and conference events in the United States. Each year, it produce more than 40 trade shows and conference events, which in 2011 connected over 300,000 buyers and sellers across 20 industries. That includes the Outdoor Retailer shows which attract roughly 21,000 attendees twice a year to  the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City.
