The October 2021 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) decreased 19.3 in October against inflated demand a year ago tied to the pandemic.

The NSSF-adjusted figure of 1.43 million is compared to the October 2020 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1.77 million.

For comparison, the unadjusted October 2021 FBI NICS figure of 2.58 million reflects a 21.1 percent decrease from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 3.27 million in October 2020.

NSSF said the October 2021 figures were the second strongest for the month on record, surpassed only by October 2020, when 1,769,553 background checks for a firearm sale were conducted.

The total NSSF-adjusted NICS (January to October 2021) reflects a decrease of 11.9 percent compared to the same time period in 2020.
