The August 2021 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) decreased 21.1 percent in August against inflated demand a year ago tied to the pandemic.
The August 2021 figures were still the second strongest for the month on record, surpassed only by August 2020.
The NSSF-adjusted figure of 1.33 million compared to the August 2020 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1.68 million. For comparison, the unadjusted August 2021 FBI NICS figure 2,697,234 reflects a 12.6 percent decrease from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 3,085,227 in August 2020.
The total NSSF-adjusted NICS January through August 2021 reflects a decrease of 10.3 percent compared to the same time period in 2020.
