New Balance signed Jürgen Klopp, the charismatic coach of the Liverpool FC, as one of its ambassadors.
New Balance is the also the official kit supplier of the team.
Klopp was appointed as Liverpool’s manager in October 2015 and he has led the team to two finals, the League Cup and the Europa Cup, although no championships. In July, he extended his contract another seven years. Previously, Klopp was at Borussia Dortmund for seven years and he spent seven years at Mainz before that. During his seven years in charge at Dortmund, Klopp’s club won two league titles, one DFB-Pokal and two DFL-Supercups.
Klopp commented, “I am excited to now be part of the New Balance team. I’ve got to know the brand very well since moving to LFC. New Balance shares my enthusiasm for football, always working hard to improve our position in the game and reach our goals. I’m excited for what the future will bring.”
Richard Wright, general manager of New Balance, said, “Jürgen Klopp is one of the best managers in the world and we are delighted to announce him as a signing for New Balance Football. He brings a personality and an exciting style of football to anywhere he goes. With Jürgen as the Liverpool FC manager it only strengthens the ties that New Balance Football has with the Club. To be able to add this winning mentality and wealth of experience to New Balance Football is simply fantastic. We are excited to see what the future holds with this relationship between New Balance and Jürgen over the coming seasons.”
In February 2015, New Balance announced sponsorship deals with Liverpool, Porto, Stoke City and Sevilla in the English Premier League. The sponsorships represented the company’s first entry into the global soccer market. All four clubs already had kit deals with Warrior Football, which is owned by New Balance. Warrior shifted its focus on lacrosse and hockey.
At the time, New Balance also announced sponsorships in other football clubs, including Club Sport Emelec, Celtic and Bury F.C. and the national teams of Costa Rica and Panama, as well as star players such as Vincent Kompany, Marouane Fellaini and Tim Cahill.
