Neiman Marcus, Inc. reported August sales fell 15.3% to $241 million from $285 million a year ago as comps plunged 16.6%. Comps in the Specialty Retail Stores segment, which includes Neiman Marcus Stores and Bergdorf Goodman, decreased 19.6%.
On a relative basis, revenue growth trends were stronger in the company's stores in Texas and the Southeast. The merchandise categories in the Specialty Retail Stores segment that performed the strongest were ladies' shoes, precious jewelry, beauty and couture apparel.
Comparable revenues at Neiman Marcus Direct in the four-week August period increased 0.1%. The top selling merchandise categories in the Direct Marketing segment included women's contemporary apparel and dresses, beauty and shoes.
