Kevin Garnett, former NBA Most Valuable Player, 15-time All Star and NBA World Champion, has acquired the Hoop It Up basketball tour. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 1989, Hoop It Up is a grassroots basketball tour with millions of participants in city-based events. Hoop It Up is the original basketball series that provides participants with a memorable experience by elevating the game with its focus on fundamentals, speed, style and substance of the 3-on-3 format. Hoop It Up offers competition for all ages and levels of ability.
“I am looking forward to carrying Hoop It Up forward to the next generation of basketball players,” said Garnett. “In 2020, we will be rolling out a dynamic streetball festival tour which will converge basketball, music, video gaming and urban lifestyle to create a unique sports live and digital experience.”
Garnett has formed Big Ticket Sports LLC, an experiential event management and production company based in Littleton, CO, to own and operate Hoop It Up as well as Kick It 3v3 soccer tour. Both Hoop It Up and Kick It were acquired from Grand Sports Management LLC.
For the first time ever, 3-on-3 basketball will be an Olympic medal sport in 2020. Hoop It Up collaborates with FIBA on qualifying tournaments which help determine the teams that earn berths to the Olympics.
“We would like to congratulate Kevin Garnett on his acquisition of Hoop It Up,” said FIBA 3×3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez. “Kevin has been a great ambassador for the game of basketball and we look forward to seeing him help develop 3×3 basketball in North America and abroad.”
Hoop It Up also works with NBA teams to hold 3-on-3 tournaments including the Denver Nuggets upcoming 3-on-3 tournament on September 7th at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO.
