In Yakutsk, Russia—which is technically in Siberia—last week’s winter temperatures dropped as dangerously low as -88 degrees Fahrenheit—colder than the surface temperature on Mars according to Space.com. After being outside for just 15 to 20 minutes, this Instagram user posted photos of her eyelashes and brows covered in fine, white ice crystals.
For residents living in this remote area of Russia, -88 degrees isn’t even the record low yet. They still seem to enjoy the cold as evidenced by social media images of cold-weather selfies and stories about stunts in the extreme temps. While strangely beautiful to look at, this young woman’s lashes literally freeze into icy clumps. How does she keep her eyes open when her lashes are so weighed down? Feels like Narnia.
Russians get to enjoy their Narnia vibe of endless winter for several months out fo the year.
