National Wild Turkey Federation CEO George Thornton announced Thursday that the Federation's communications team would be headed by two director positions.

Burt Carey, NWTF's Turkey Call magazine editor, was promoted to a new role as the NWTF's Editorial Director and will have responsibility for all NWTF publications, graphic arts and video production. Brent Lawrence will continue in his role as NWTF's Director of Public Relations and Web Operations

Prior to becoming editor of the NWTF's Turkey Call magazine in May 2006, he worked for nearly 17 years as editor of three monthly magazines — Rocky Mountain Game & Fish, California Game & Fish, and Washington-Oregon Game & Fish. His byline has appeared in such titles as Turkey Call, Gun World, Bow & Arrow Hunting, Guns & Gear, Fishing & Boating Illustrated, The Christian Sportsman and Mule Deer magazines, and on Cabelas.com.

“Burt brings a lifetime of experience in publishing,” said Thornton. “He brings significant experience in the Marine Corps, the private sector and the conservation world to this position. His technical skills, interpersonal skills and his managerial expertise position him to provide the leadership we require to fulfill our mission.”

Directing the NWTF's Public Relations and Web Site efforts is Lawrence, who brings 15 years experience within the newspaper industry and experience with Bass Pro Shops to the NWTF's communications team.

“Brent's experience has prepared him to reshape and lead our public relations activities,” said Thornton. “Brent has been with NWTF for the past two and a half months and made sacrifices to be here while his family has stayed in Springfield, Mo. His commitment to NWTF and his staff is obvious and we can't wait for his family to join him in the Edgefield area in the near future.”
