Adidas canceled its contract with the Germany swimming federation after athletes complained that its suits were not competitive. Several swimmers wearing Speedo's LZR Racer suit have broken world records.

Adidas informed the German swimming federation about the “immediate annulment of the contract,” company spokesman Oliver Brueggen told the Associated Press. Germany's team members wanted the option to choose a supplier rather than being forced to wear Adidas' swim suits.

German swimmers have complained since the Beijing Olympic that their Adidas suits were inferior to Speedo's LZR Racer, which increases buoyancy. The latest criticism from German swimmers came at last week's short-course European Championship, where several world records were broken in Rijeka, Croatia.
