Mountain Safety Research’s new Lightning Ascent snowshoe has been named a 2004 ispo Outdoor Award winner in the hardware category. The Lightning Ascent was chosen for the award because it represented the best in its category for function, quality, technical solutions, innovation, usability and design.

The 2004 Outdoor Award is limited to new gear and equipment slated for sale in the winter 2004/2005 season and evaluated by an international jury, consisting of safety specialists from the German Alpine Association (DAV Sicherheitskreis), European standards committee for alpine gear, sport- and outdoor-journalists and retailers, and the project manager of outdoor/ski-ispo. With over 1,600 exhibitors from 40 countries, ispo Winter 2004 is one of the world’s largest sports trade fairs.

Bill Forrest, Cascade Designs’ winter sports product specialist, said, “Innovation is what makes us come to work every day. We’re honored to receive this award, which validates the years of dedicated R&D that went into designing the next generation of snowshoes.”

The MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoe features a new approach to frame design. The patent-pending design provides unbeatable 360-degree traction and shaves a half pound or more of weight off the average competitor. With the help of a gait specialist, MSR biomechanically tuned the snowshoes for men and women to make walking and climbing easier.
