Mountain Safety Research (MSR), a Seattle-based outdoor equipment brand, named professional athlete Mike Chambers as the newest member of its athlete ambassador team. Chambers, renowned for mountain expeditions and social responsibility, has joined forces with the company to collaborate on events, expeditions, social impact projects and new product performance testing.

Chambers joins a team of longtime MSR ambassadors, including professional climber Steph Davis, snowboarder Jeremy Jones, polar explorer Eric Larson, mountaineer Mike Libecki and mountaineer and skier Hilaree O’Neill.

“His love for adventure and the outdoors is matched by his passion for social good,” said Patrick Diller, MSR Global Health. “Just as MSR Global Health was created by MSR to empower low-income communities throughout the developing world, Chambers has extended his own love for the outdoors into work as a social entrepreneur in developing nations, making him a perfect fit for our team of ambassadors.”

Chambers is chief strategist and serves on the board of directors at Flying Kites, an organization providing high-quality education and holistic support for orphaned and critically poor children in Kenya. His work at Flying Kites includes the development of Flying Kites Adventures, an adventure travel program that provides participants the opportunity to raise funds for children’s education in Kenya. Since its start in 2010, the Flying Kites Adventures program has raised millions of dollars for the organization.

Chambers expanded on his work as a social entrepreneur in 2014 when he co-founded Summits Education, an organization building education systems in rural Haiti. With over  40 schools, Summits Education raises the standard of education and development for Haiti’s most vulnerable children.

“Access to clean water is one of the biggest challenges I see in the communities where we work,” said Chambers. “I’m drawn to and inspired by companies like MSR that leverage their products and technologies to create a healthier, more equitable world for all. I’m incredibly excited to call myself a Mountain Safety Research athlete and brand ambassador, and look forward to working together to help communities worldwide.”

Utilizing MSR’s near 50 years of technical engineering and manufacturing expertise, MSR Global Health develops technologies that increase access to vital needs for people living on less than $5 a day, including clean water.
