Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), Canada’s leading supplier of outdoor gear, just launched a full-featured on-line gearswap called OutdoorGearSwap.com.

OutdoorGearSwap.com is a free service that makes it easy for outdoor adventurers to buy, sell, and trade used outdoor gear across North America. Users can sort and filter postings to quickly find what theyre looking for, as well as email postings to friends.

“Sure it’s unconventional for a retailer to encourage the recycling of used gear, but it’s entirely consistent with our values,” explained Peter Robinson, MEC’s CEO. Mountain Equipment Co-op’s core purpose is to support people in achieving the benefit of wilderness-oriented recreation.

MEC has offered an on-line gearswap with limited features since 1997. “Our experience over the last few years shows that gearswap users visit our site more often, and tend to be more frequent purchasers on our retail website, mec.ca,” said Robinson. “The expanded functionality of OutdoorGearSwap.com offers a great service that’s also good for business.”
