Mongoose is coming to China, and will announce plans for the official brand launch at a press conference at the 2006 Shanghai Bike Show. Among the announcements at the press conference, Mongoose executives will reveal that it inked a deal to become the official bicycle supplier of the Chinese National BMX Race Team from 2006 through 2008. Mongoose hopes to bring the China National team success at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Mongoose and National Team executives will sign the formal contract during the press conference, scheduled for 1:30 pm on April 19.

Mongoose is also sponsoring a pro BMX freestyle team in China, which currently includes top Chinese cyclists Moulder Rui, Liang Lemin and Chen Haofeng and Max Chen, who also manages the team.

Mongoose also plans to take its success in the mountain biking category to China, adding mountain bikers to its Chinese teams in the near future.

“Mongoose has a winning heritage and we sponsor some of the world’s best athletes in the BMX and mountain bike categories,” said Chris Hornung, CEO of Pacific Cycle, owner of the Mongoose brand. “The Chinese team has huge potential in BMX racing and we believe that by sharing our successful experience, we can help produce a competitive team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.”

Mongoose plans to expand its sales and distribution in China and is currently in negotiations with potential distribution partners.
