Modell’s Sporting Goods will be part of a group of New York retailers to support an  War veteran’s question to walk across the country to raise money for military families.

Customers will be asked to asked to donate to Troy Yocum’s “A Soldier’s Hike for Heroes” campaign.

Mitchell Modell, CEO of Modell’s  announced a campaign to fund raise for the campaign during a press conference in Times Square, New York City.

Party City, Mandee, Annie Sez, U.S. Polo Association, Danice and 10SpotPlus will also be asking customers making purchases to donate money to Yocum’s effort.

Yocum, 32 and his entourage began their Hike for Heroes 14 months ago from their home in Louisville, Ky. and have logged 6,400 zig-zagging miles. They hope to return home Sept. 3. Yocum plans to finish his journey at the Louisville Slugger Museum on Sept. 3.
