Mitchell & Ness Nostalgia Co. has opened its first international retail location: the Mitchell & Ness flagship store in Tokyo, Japan. The store is located in the heart of the trendsetting street wear district, Harajuku, which neighbors the burgeoning, high fashion section of Shibuya.  The 700 sq ft. brick front store features hardwood floors, antique wood fixtures, and plasma television screens running classic footage of historic moments in U.S. sports history.

“The Tokyo store is a testament to the increasing relevance of the 103 year-old brand that began as a small sporting goods store in Philadelphia. It’s an honor to work with a company like Fames and have our products sold in Tokyo’s vibrant fashion district”, explained Mitchell & Ness owner Peter Capolino.

The opening of the store demonstrates the Japanese culture’s strong affinity for North American sports history.  Much like the flagship store in Philadelphia, the Harajuku store connects nostalgic sports memorabilia with in-store merchandising to convey the core of the brand.  The store is operated by Mitchell & Ness partner and Japanese retailer, Fames.

Nobuhiko Kadono, President of FAMES, described the new venture, “We are extremely excited about the opportunity to partner with Mitchell & Ness.  American sports culture is very popular with younger generations in Japan.  We look forward to expanding the brand on a global scale.”
