Merrell, the outdoor footwear manufacturer is bringing its “Wonder Wheel” pop-up art installation to New York City from September 27-29. Urbanites can trek around the world at Studio 525 in Chelsea and “experience the wonders of nature without leaving the city.”

By making nature more accessible for New Yorkers, Merrerll’s “Wander Wheel” brings the trail to the city’s heart. The large, interactive sculpture slowly spins on a static base, moving visitors through worldwide natural environments in the four hemispheres.

From California’s flowering hills, Switzerland’s snowy passes, and Brazil’s dramatic landscapes to the Australian Outback, those who attend the exhibit can explore the “trails within the ‘Wonder Wheel’ as they walk on the moving installation.”

Merrell will have available its Moab Speed 2 hiking boots for attendees to wear while interacting with the wheel. The installation will be open to the public at 525 W. 24th Sreet in Manhattan during the following dates and times:

  • September 27, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. EST
  • September 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST
  • September 29, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST

“The good that happens when we spend time in nature and on the trail are just within reach, even in the heart of the city,” said Merrell’s VP of Brand Marketing, Lindsey Lindemulder. “The ‘Wander Wheel’ invites New Yorkers to step outside, recharge and find nature in unexpected places.”

The “Wonder Wheel’s” interior surface mimics a hiking trail. Upon entering the space, attendees will “encounter a “sensory palate cleanser—natural audio, subtle scents, a wash of color, and a visual barrier will prepare them mentally and physically for the immersive experience,” said Merrell in a media release.

“Hiking is a joy that everyone can experience, no matter where they live. Merrell’s ‘Wander Wheel’ is an art installation designed to evoke wonder and remind us of the good things that await when hiking,” noted Lindemulder.
