McDavid will be the presenting sponsor of the 2009 Scout Combines. The series of high school football events are set to take place in 13 cities across the country, including Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco, and attract some of the nations top high school players. This marks the ninth year that Scout.com, a division of FOX Sports Interactive, has produced this series of events and the first year of participation by McDavid.
McDavid is serving as the exclusive performance apparel partner, providing HexPad compression shirts and performance tees for each event. Hibbett Sports is on board as a co-sponsor of the Scout Combines.
Approximately 200 athletes participate in each combine and are hand-selected by the Scout.com team of recruiting experts for each regional event. During the combines, the players engage in drills that measure performance and judge specific position abilities.
Each participating athlete has their own profile page on Scout.com, featuring biographical and statistical information related to their high school results and college recruiting status. Combine results are also uploaded onto player profile pages enabling fans to track the progress of potential recruits on the Web during the events. Specific performance tests include the 40 meter dash, bench press, vertical jump and more. In addition, fans following the combines online have access to prospect rankings, video clips, photos, and season stats listed on each player profile.
FOXSports.com is working with Get-N-10's to manage all timed events electronically, including player data updates, to ensure greater accuracy and a more efficient publishing schedule on Scout.com.
“It is critically important for us to provide student athletes with the best possible opportunity to demonstrate their abilities on the football field,” said Andrew Hossom, vice president of marketing for FOX Sports Interactive. “We are excited to create a controlled and safe environment for these young players to showcase their talent, helping them attract the attention of college coaches and recruiters. Whether they participate in Orlando, New Orleans, or Charlotte, for many, the combines are the best opportunity to gain this type of national exposure, and our experts will be there to document all of the action and create valuable recruiting content on Scout.com.”
Many college and pro players now rely on McDavid and its patented HexPad technology, which offers an additional layer of protection for athletes participating in contact sports. Products like McDavids HexPad Thudd Shorts and HexPad 5 Pad Body Shirts have become staples for many players.
“We are pleased to supply apparel for athletes participating in the Scout combines, as well as serving as a presenting sponsor of such a high caliber experience,” said Bob McDavid, president of McDavid. “We are confident that our partnership will ensure that the athletes are properly equipped to represent their true talent in front of the Scout.com experts.”
Each combine is coached by Terry Smith of Gateway High School in Monroeville, PA. Smith recently took the sidelines for the Army All-American game and is widely considered to be one the top high school coaches in the country. He will provide valuable instruction to the athletes and proactively work to help every player achieve their greatest potential.
