Swiss-based global apparel company Mammut on Wednesday announced the acquisition of digital outdoors platform Mountain Hub in a push to bolster the brand’s digital community, connection to consumers and integration of technologies across platforms. Terms were not disclosed.
Mountain Hub, based in Park City, UT, and originally founded by MIT graduate students in 2015, was born out of the desire to enhance the outdoors experience by crowdsourcing real-time trip reports, routes and conditions that make the outdoors safer and more accessible for everyone.
Described as “Waze of the outdoors,” Mountain Hub’s capabilities perfectly align with Swiss brand Mammut’s focus on enhancing the consumer experience, building community and providing valuable mapping, planning and information tools through a premium product.
“Mountain Hub makes it easier for anyone to get outdoors, find the right information they need and share experiences with a like-minded community,” said Brint Markle, CEO and co-founder of Mountain Hub. “Together with Mammut we are eager to continue working with our community and partners across the outdoor industry to build that best digital tools and resources that help everyone get outside often, safely and responsibly.”
This acquisition for Mammut represents another cutting-edge opportunity in which Mammut seeks to push the boundaries and continue to serve the outdoor industry from the frontline.
“This is about experiences,” said Joe Prebich, CEO for Mammut North America. “The acquisition of Mountain Hub brings a whole new way to partner with consumers and professionals to deliver a digital experience like no one else can. From trail data to community meetups, athlete profiles and trip logs to real-time reports that aid in your daily adventures, Mountain Hub truly brings digital into the outdoors in a seamless and organic way.”
The Mammut Mountain Hub app will launch with an expanded feature set in 2019 that will be available on Apple and Android App Stores.
