Macy’s, Inc. reported total sales of $2.05 billion for the five weeks ended July 4, a decrease of 9.1% compared with total sales of $2.25 billion in the same period a year earlier. On a same-store basis, Macy’s, Inc. sales were down 8.9% in June. The company said the results were consistent with management’s expectations and the company’s year-to-date sales trend.

For the year to date, Macy’s, Inc.’s sales totaled $8.98 billion, down 9.4% from total sales of $9.92 billion in the first 22 weeks of 2008. On a same-store basis, Macy’s, Inc.’s year-to-date sales were down 9.0%.

Online sales (macys.com and bloomingdales.com combined) were up 8.2% in June 2009 and 13.6% for the year to date. Online sales are included in the same-store sales calculation for Macy's, Inc.

Macy's, Inc. operates more than 840 department stores under the names of Macy's and Bloomingdale's.
