Today, Macy’s introduced Mode of One, strengthening the retailer’s contemporary menswear assortment from “elevated everyday essentials to statement-making designs, all focusing on impeccable fits and proportions.”
As part of the company’s ongoing private brand “reimagination,” Mode of One “represents [Macy’s] commitment to offering contemporary menswear that celebrates the individuality of the modern man,” said Emily Erusha-Hilleque, SVP and head of Private Brands at Macy’s. “We are strengthening our fashion leadership in our brand portfolio, designing brands rooted in the customer’s voice and anchored in elevated trend, quality and cultural relevancy. We are excited to introduce Mode of One to our customers and look forward to seeing how they make it their own.”
Macy’s reported that it took over two years to conceptualize and design the collection, including researching men’s trends and style preferences. Street style, art, sports, music, technology and entertainment inspire Mode of One.
For the launch collection, Macy’s collaborated with graphic designer Tyrell Waiters, who created original graphics and artwork, and Ouigi Theodore, founder of The Brooklyn Circus, who served as the stylist.
Macy’s noted that it “believes that everyone has their own unique ‘mode’ of ensuring they show up feeling their best. ‘Mode’ is a nod to dynamic style and the functional belief that personal style can evolve as a method of self-expression.”
The Mode of One collection features hoodies, graphic tees, cargo pants, and suiting. Materials used to create the apparel prioritize low-maintenance comfort and performance with minimal effort.
Mode of One launches with a social-first campaign featuring cast and creators representing the community for which Macy’s created the brand, including the New York Knicks Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, who lead as the brand ambassadors of the inaugural collection.
Macy’s also tapped Atlanta-based barber and podcaster VicBlends and New York City-based chef, author and restauranter Kwame Onwuachi, who has been featured as a contestant on Top Chef and has been recognized by Food & Wine magazine, Esquire magazine and the James Beard Foundation as a “Rising Star Chef of the Year“ to create social content for the launch.
The Mode of One collection has over 140 SKUs, designed to be mixed and matched in sizes from S-XXL and 30-40. New monthly drops for Mode of One will start in October and run throughout the holiday season.
