The editors of Backpacker magazine have just announced to their readers the LOWA Vertex GTX as the recipient of a 2004 Editor’s Choice Award, the most prestigious award in the outdoor industry. The boot features Biomex Protection, a unique technology that stabilizes the ankle with a special lightweight and flexible plastic cuff thus reducing the chances of ankle sprain and fatigue. The adjustable cuff of the hiking and fast-packing Vertex GTX for men and women encircles the heel and ankle area, delivering stability and support.

Backpacker’s Editor’s Choice Awards are the gold standard against which all outdoor products are measured. A total of 17 innovative products out of the entire outdoor industry made this year’s list. The LOWA Vertex GTX redefines its product category through outstanding design and performance.

Biomex Protection technology is based on biomechanical principles clinically developed at the Center for
Orthopedics and Casualty in St. Moritz, France. The technology was originally designed for snowboard boots and in-line skates but their studies have shown that the same protection is applicable to hiking boots. The Center asked LOWA to develop a hiking boot that would incorporate Biomex and the result is the Vertex GTX.
