L.L.Bean will give $1 million to the town of Freeport for the development and donation of a public green space/park that will include trails, a skating pond, picnic benches and shelters. The company, based in Freeport, said the donation was made in honor of its 95th anniversary.
L.L.Bean plans to share details its plans at a public hearing on March 6th at the Freeport Town Hall. A press packet with conceptual drawings will be included.
In early February, L.L. Bean announced plans to increase the size of Freeport flagship store and move its outlet store to its hunting and fishing store across the street. The existing factory store on Depot Street, a block from the main store, is going to be razed to make way for a 118,500-square-foot retail-restaurant complex with a 529-space public parking garage. A 33,000-square-foot flagship store addition would be built over a man-made pond behind the store. The Discovery Pond would be re-created in the future. L.L. Bean hopes to begin construction at the flagship store in April and complete it by November.
