According to a report published in the Wall Street Journal, Liz Claiborne is seeking to divest 16 of its 36 brands in an effort to simplify corporate structure and reduce expenses. The company has been suffering from a down-turn in department store sales. One of the brands Claiborne reportedly plans to divest is prAna, which it acquired in November of 2005.
The 16 brands that Claiborne will try to sell or license out or possibly discontinue are Sigrid Olsen, Prana, Ellen Tracy, Dana Buchman, Mac & Jac, Kensie, Intuitions, C&C California, Enyce, Laundry, Tint, Stamp10, First Issue, Emma James, Tapemeasure and J.H. Collectibles.
