In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Klim recalled its backcountry probes due to a severe injury or death risk.

The recalled probes can fail to operate when rescuers deploy the equipment, posing a risk of severe injury or death to a person buried under snow following an avalanche.

The recall was announced on February 16, 2023.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled probes, contact Klim by email at and enter “A300 Probe Recall” in the subject line to receive a full refund. Klim will send consumers free shipping material and a pre-paid shipping label to return the probes.

KLIM is contacting all purchasers directly.

About 3,930 units are covered in the U.S. recall and about 400 in Canada.
