Klean Kanteen, the manufacturer of reusable drinkware, recently surpassed the two-million-dollar mark in donations to 1% for the Planet partners.

1% for the Planet is a global network with thousands of businesses, non-profits and individuals who contribute one percent of their annual gross sales or income to environmental causes.

A 1% for the Planet member since 2008, Klean Kanteen originally spread its one percent donation across nine partners. Today, that list spans forty non-profit organizations around the globe that receive cash, products, and volunteer hours from Klean staff.
Klean Kanteen currently focuses its donation dollars and volunteer time on four causes: plastic pollution, safe consumer products, land and water conservation, and environmental stewardship. 5Gyres, Leave No Trace, American Rivers, The Conservation Alliance, Naturebridge, Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, Environmental Working Group, and Outdoor Afro are all non-profits that have received donations from Klean Kanteen through 1% for the Planet.

“We are not only proud of this milestone in our giving, but we are also appreciative of the relationships we have built over the years with the non-profit partners we support,” said Jeff Cresswell, co-owner of Klean Kanteen. “We see great value in working with our partners to identify opportunities to share their work with our community, and we look forward to continued collaboration and support of these organizations who align so well with our core values at Klean.”

The bulk of Klean’s funding goes directly to operational costs for the non-profits that provide support without the restrictions that are common with foundation or grant donations. To date, Klean Kanteen has donated 2.1 million dollars to 1% Percent for the Planet Partners.

In addition to donating 1% of gross sales every year to effect positive change, Klean Kanteen promotes sustainability in every aspect of business. From green shipping practices, to event sponsorship and non profit partnerships, Klean Kanteen is conscious of using business to create a positive impact on the world.
