Kammok has converted to a B Corporation status, a designation created by the non-profit B Lab to recognize companies that use the power of business to solve economic and social problems.

Based in Austin, TX, Kammok creates high quality outdoor gear and apparel for the socially and environmentally conscious adventurer. Kammok launched in 2011 with two revolutionary camping products: the ROO, a single adult camping hammock or “kammok”, and the Python Straps hammock suspension system.

Through the company's corporate giving model, every Kammok product sold helps support environmental and social issues around the world. Through a partnership with Malaria No More, for instance, Kammok donates a treated mosquito net or health education to a family in Africa and also donates 1 percent of revenue to CTC International and their sustainable development projects in Maai Mahiu, Kenya through a partnership with 1 percent For The Planet.

“Being certified as a B-Corp wasn’t an easy undertaking, but well worth it!” said Greg Mcevilly, CEO of Kammok.  “We're excited to help draw a line drawn in the dirt, joining other businesses that have made the commitment to do away with business as usual.  This recognition reinforces our commitment to a stakeholder-centric business model and our mission of engaging people in the adventure of changing lives.”

Certified B Corporations operate the same as traditional businesses but meet higher standards of corporate purpose, accountability, and transparency. In order to be recognized as a Certified B Corporation, Kammok had to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance and legally expand its corporate responsibilities to include consideration of stakeholder interests. With this recognition, Kammok joins a growing list of for-profit businesses including Patagonia, GoLite, Warby Parker, Klean Kanteen and Etsy in their commitment to social and economic performance, transparency and accountability.

Certified B Corporations meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance; legally expand their corporate responsibilities to include consideration of stakeholder interests; and build collective voice through the power of the unifying B Corporation brand.  As of October 2012, there are 635 Certified B Corporations from over 60 industries in 15 countries, representing a diverse multi-billion dollar marketplace.

B Lab is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.  B Lab drives systemic change through three interrelated initiatives: building a community of Certified B Corporations to make it easier for all of us to tell the difference between “good companies” and just good marketing; accelerating the growth of the impact investing asset class through use of B Lab’s GIIRS impact rating system by institutional investors; and promoting supportive public policies, including creation of a new corporate form and tax, procurement, and investment incentives for sustainable business.
